Full Control Over Webcam and Mic

We understand and appreciate the feedback you’ve been providing, and are striving to make TwoSeven more friendly and safe for you to use. When we first built TwoSeven, it was only used by me and my husband—and we would always have our webcam and mic enabled. The way we saw it, adding additional clicks to enable webcam or mic were a waste of time. In other words, a lot of our initial design decisions were made based on the way we used TwoSeven.

We take your privacy very seriously and have made the following changes:

  1. Webcam and mic will no longer automatically turn on when you join a page
  2. You can choose to turn on your mic without sharing your webcam video
  3. No big, black box when there’s no webcam video

Webcam and mic will no longer automatically turn on when you join a page

We’ve added two additional buttons on the page to enable you to toggle your webcam and mic on and off. To toggle your webcam video, simply click videocam_off/videocam icons that are on the right side of your screen. Similarly, You can use the mic_off/mic_on icons to toggle your mic.

You can choose to turn on your mic without sharing your webcam video

With the addition of the two buttons described above, you can now choose to only have audio-chat by clicking the mic_off button. The icon merely represents the current state of the mic and will turn into mic_on once you click on it.

No big, black box when there’s no webcam video

Ever been annoyed by the black box that continued to show up even when you turned off someone’s webcam stream? We’ve been too! So now we’ve made the whole component more compact when there’s no video to show. We’ve also optimized it to give you control over the audio settings as always, and like it much better now. We’d love to hear what you think!
